Camp Vinnie, a first-year collaboration between the St. Vincent de Paul homeless shelter and The Other Place, the community’s daytime shelter, is a summer day camp for homeless kids to enjoy themselves while their parents focus on the family’s housing needs.  Hiking in Glen Helen and ice cream at Young’s Dairy, trips to COSI in Columbus and the Freedom Center in Cincinnati, fishing at Delco Park, canoeing on the Little Miami and a day at Kings Island are just some of the activities they have enjoyed.

The day trips and on-site activities are planned and supervised by volunteer youth counselors Gus Lazarus and Megan Bibelhausen of Miami University and Roddy Patterson, Molly Buerschen and Emily Buerschen of Alter High School.  Camp Vinnie debuted on June 19 and will conclude on August 8.

Educational, fun, eye-opening and memorable - Camp Vinnie gives kids whose families are facing hardship a break from their troubles and a chance to enjoy their summer break. Thank you to our volunteers and the many sponsors who have made this program possible.
