Clients of our Community Food Pantry were recently invited by the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks to participate in an advocacy campaign to tell legislators how important local food panties are to them. Their messages expressing their needs and gratitude will move you.
“Even though I work a full time job I don’t know how I would make through the month with feeding my family without the help of this pantry because of the price increase on everything.”
“I was unemployed in 2007. I am 66 years old. Now I am going back to college so I can get a job and work til I’m 70. Without this food pantry I wouldn’t have enough to eat.”
“I am a 63 yr old disabled woman who desperately depends on this pantry. I have many medical bills and my son and grandchildren live with me.”
“The pantry means it helps people from being hungry and helps me know that there is people out in this world that cares what happens to people.”
“My 5-year old grandson lives with me and I’ve been laid off since June. Sometimes I wonder if there is going to be food on the table. Thanks to the wonderful programs in Dayton, I don’t have to worry about that.”
“The food pantry is important to my family because I am on disability and I have to use my whole check for rent and utilities. We get food stamps but have less than $100 per person per month for food. Without the pantry we would have at least one week a month without food.”
“I just found out about the pantry today but I have absolutely NO food at my house and I just got out of the hospital after having surgery. If it weren’t for the pantry, I wouldn’t have any place to go get food.”
“I became disabled 6 months ago. I had no income at all. If not for St. Vincent’s food pantry, I would have starved. Thanks to them I’m still surviving.”
“As a food pantry volunteer, I see the need that people have. Do the right thing and don’t cut benefits!”
“This pantry puts food on the table for us. I have been unemployed since March with no assistance and this is the only option for my children and I to eat. Thank you.”
“This pantry helps me get thru every month as I always run out of food stamps the 2nd or 3rd week of every month. I don’t know what I would do without it!”
“Right now I am on medical leave with no income. When everyone else turn me down the pantry always have the door open for me!”
“What would I have to eat without the pantry?”
“The pantry is a great service for me and my kids. We would struggle without it.”
“…..I have been looking, calling and been online for over 9 months looking for someone to hire me. It’s that bad out here. No job, no food. That’s why food pantry is there to help….”
“I am 68 with a handicapped wife on a fixed income. The Food Pantry makes a difference in eating or NOT.”
