Volunteer Opportunities
Daytime
Basket Person: Volunteer assists the morning staff with baskets. 5:45a.m. – 7:15a.m.
Server Breakfast: Volunteers take direction from Guest Attendant on duty. Volunteers serve previously prepared or planned breakfast to the guests and CLEAN UP afterwards. Clean up includes dishes, counter-tops, stoves and spills on the floors. This position is from 5:00a.m.- 7:30a.m.
Front Desk: Volunteers answer and direct phone calls, greet hotel guests returning to the hotel for appointments, distribute mail and phone messages. Volunteers answer front and back doors and accept donations. This position is available from 9:00a.m. – 12:00p.m., 12:00p.m. – 3:00p.m. or 3:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.
Kitchen: Volunteers work closely with staff in the mornings to insure kitchen is clean from the night before and all perishable food is utilized. Volunteers assist in managing food use and preparation. This position is done between 9:00a.m. – 11:00a.m.
Food Preparation: Volunteers work closely with staff in the mornings to prepare food for guests, singles and families. The singles eat lunch at 11:00AM, dinner at 7:00PM; and the families eat lunch at 12:00PM, dinner at 5:00PM. This position is done between 9:00a.m. – 11:00a.m.
Server Lunch Singles: Volunteers take direction from Kitchen Manager on duty. Volunteers serve previously fixed and planned lunch to the singles and CLEAN UP afterwards. Clean up includes dishes, counter-tops, stoves and spills on the floors. This position is from 10:00a.m.- 1:00p.m.
Server Lunch Families: Volunteers take direction from Kitchen Manager on duty. Volunteers serve previously fixed and planned lunch to the families and CLEAN UP afterwards. Clean up includes dishes, counter-tops, stoves and spills on the floors. This position is from 11:00a.m.- 2:00p.m.
Laundry: Volunteers assist in washing, drying and folding laundry. Volunteers assist in loading linen carts for the men’s and women’s dorm areas, insure laundry reciprocals are placed back into respective dorms, and insure ladies have sleeping attire for the night. This is an early morning job starting at approx. 8:00a.m. – Noon.
Sorting Room: Volunteers are needed to sort donations to be utilized to directly benefit the guests of St. Vincent de Paul Hotel. Items are sorted for the Clothing Room or for immediate use in the dorm areas. Unnecessary items are sorted and sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift store. Volunteers answer back door and accept donations. This position can be done at any time during the day.
Mail Distribution: Volunteers distribute guests’ mail Monday through Friday from 2:00p.m. – 4:00p.m.
Clothing Room: Volunteers place previously sorted clothing in the Clothing Room. Volunteers size and place clothing in previously designated areas. This position is done on Mondays starting at 12:30p.m. The clothing room is open Tuesday mornings 8:30a.m. – 10:30a.m.
Clothing Room Monitor: Volunteers monitor guests as they make their clothing selections. This position is done on Tuesday mornings 8:30a.m. – 10:30a.m.
Dry Storage: Volunteers organize and arrange food, cleaning supplies and paper products. This task is especially critical before and after the holidays. This position can be done at any time during the day.
Clerical Duties: Volunteers file guest files for case management. This task can be done anytime Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. – 4:30p.m.
Evenings
SwitchOver: Volunteers switch over the Day Space to the Men’s Overflow. This task includes the removal of all chairs; the floor is swept and mopped and mats replace the chairs. 5:30PM – 6:30PM.

Men Dorm Asst: Volunteers assist the evening staff with bed assignments, distributing personal care items, linen distribution and help with clean-up. Volunteers assist Guest Attendants serve dinner when there are not enough servers in the kitchen. This position is done between 6:30p.m. – 8:30p.m.
Women Dorm Asst: Volunteers assist the evening staff bed assignments, distributing personal care items, linen distribution and help with clean-up. Volunteers assist Guest Attendants serve dinner when there are not enough servers in the kitchen. This position is done between 6:30p.m. – 8:30p.m.
Family Dorm Asst: Volunteers assist the evening staff with bed and room assignments, distributing personal care items, linen distribution and help with clean-up. Volunteers assist Guest Attendants serve dinner when there are not enough servers in the kitchen. This position is done anytime between the hours of 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m.
Server Dinner Families: Volunteers take direction from Guest Attendant on duty. Volunteers serve previously prepared and planned dinner to the family guests and CLEAN UP afterwards. Clean up includes dishes, counter-tops, stoves and floors. This position is from 4:30p.m. - 6:30p.m.
