The primary focus of the Dayton District Council is to assist the homeless and impoverished. With respect and compassion, motivated by Gospel values, we empower men, women and families to build a foundation for a secure future including permanent housing.
Our work begins with the 35 Conferences throughout the Miami Valley who focus on assisting those in poverty in their local communities. Their work is critical in helping to keep families and individuals from becoming part of the homeless community. They are assisted in their work by our Community Stores which fulfills vouchers issued by the Conferences for furniture, clothing and other household goods*. We also operate a Community Food Pantry which distributes food to the poor. The St. Vincent de Paul Deconstruction Depot features a diverse inventory of vintage, used building materials for architects, contractors and homeowners alike at bargain prices.
For those who become homeless, our first point of assistance are the Gateway Shelters, which provide 24/7 emergency shelter and are the point of entry for anyone seeking a housing referral. The St. Vincent de Paul Gateway Shelter for Women & Families and the Gettysburg Gateway for Men are both operated by St. Vincent de Paul with our partner, Homefull, providing onsite, housing-focused case management services at both locations.
We also offer 94-units of supportive housing with case management and life skill training to homeless clients who are referred through the Gateway Shelters including the St. Vincent de Paul Transitional Housing for Women & Families, the St. Vincent DePaul Center, the St. Vincent de Paul Kettering Commons and St. Vincent de Paul
*Please note, we may not be able to provide all the needs of a particular applicant. All services are provided based upon availability of donations and funds.
